As from 1 December 2016, the minimum wage for South Africa’s domestic workers, including housekeepers, gardeners, nannies and domestic drivers, will increase as indicated below:
Domestic workers working more than 27 ordinary hours per week:
R2 422.54 per month, R559.09 per week or R12.42 per hour in metropolitan areas
R2 205.17 per month, R508.93 per week or R11.31 per hour in non-metropolitan areas
Domestic workers who work less than 27 ordinary hours per week:
R1 701.06 per month or R392.58 per week or R14.54 per hour in metropolitan areas
R1 562.21 per month or R360.54 per week or R13.53 per hour in non-metropolitan areas
